Posting this here so everyone can see it.

Lots of addons have sync or update options which transmit data to other people.   Some are limited to just spamming those with the same addon, others throw information regardless.

Obviously some information needs to be transmitted during raids and dungeons but a lot of addons send out data just because they can, which given enough spamming will affect other people's perfromance, especially those addons that transmit data indiscriminately to people who are in the same guild, on friendslist or even just in the same custom chat channel!

At the moment the only way to prevent addonspam from a certain person is to put them on ignore, which is not very helpful!  Blizzard needs to give us a way to just block addons.  :/

Here's how to diable some of the worst culprits:

Carbonite / CarboniteQuest - this is by far the heaviest spammer I've seen and will throw info at people who don't even have the mod or are not in the same guild! Please poke these options: Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register - Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

Gearscore - Sync is on by default, everytime you mouseover someone it sends details of that person to everyone else with the addon, ouch!   Type "/gset communicate" to turn the sync off.

Altoholic - It's been a while since I used it, but IIRC there are some "share info to guild/friends" options, should be disabled by default, as long as these are off spam is negligable.

LibGuildPositions - possibly part of Cartographer, but might also be bundled in something else or a standalone.   I don't know if it requires other people to have the mod for their positions to be displayed in the minimap, but it certainly spams those without.  No known way to stop the spam so please consider turning it off for raids at least.

Add 'em if you got 'em, yell if I made a mistake, ta!

It was back in '32 when times were hard.  He had a Colt .45 and a deck of cards.
