Title: Party snacks!
Post by Twoo on 09/23/09 at 09:23:08
Soon Halloween and various other things are sneaking up on us. Here's a couple of snacky little delights to keep the adults entertained.

Orange Spiced Nuts

1 medium orange
1 egg white
1/2 teaspoon cardamom
55g caster sugar
300 pecans
75g pistachios

Using a veg peeler carefuller remove the rind from the orange and cut into thin strips. Whisk egg white in a bowl until frothy, stir in rind, cardamom, sugar and nuts. Spread mixture over a greased oven tray and bake in a moderate oven for 30 mins, turning occasionally until crisped and browned. Cool. Done!

Cajun Bacon Popcorn

8 bacon rashers, chopped
2 tablespoons olive oil
170g popping corn
160g coarsely grated parmesan cheese
1 1/2 tablespoons cajun seasoning

Cook bacon until brown and crisped, then cook popping corn till... popped with oil. Transfer popcorn to a large bowl, stir in rest of ingredients.

Party snacks sounds nice, but I do not do 5-man that often.

Do you got any raid snacks?

Blatantly invading old recipethreads...

Very easy cheesy snacks.

Cheese! (any cheese, in little pieces (there's prolly a word for the cheese you can like sprinkle on stuff (here mostly used to throw on pastadishes)
Puff pastry.

The original recipe talks about parmesan cheese. But I'm a sucker for what's available, cheap and has to be like used up before it turns back into life. So really any cheese you like/have/want.

Let the puff pastry defrost (if you want to make this a non easy recipe, go on, make our day and make your own).
Preheat oven to 180 degrees celcius.
Take a slice? (gawd those words, piece, thingie), throw cheese on it. Press it a bit, put on second slice. Press more so it sorta sticks together. Cut in erm more slices?
Take a slice at one end and sorta roll the other end so it's twirly. Put on (waaah, those words failing me, the flat thing that every oven comes with sorta where you can put stuff on!), either butter it before or use tinfoil (we're too lazy to butter that).
Fill up the plate with all the twirls (actually any shape will do as kiddo proved a few years ago).
When plate is filled, you can sprinkle additional cheese on it.
Shove in oven.
While that's in oven you can prepare next ones if (my oven is not big enough!).
I think about 15 to 20mins will do, but well you should be able to see when the puff pastry is like done. It turns into a nice very lightbrownish color and it sorta doubled in size.
Eat!
