Their 2H swords are in fact axes. And yes, they seem to have continued to pay the same idiot to design them.

they are obviously Maaaagical swords, as they don't need metal to hold them together. Therefor, until you actually have "somewhat solid" swords, count on their magic edges not needing things like "edge" to cut ;)
In fact, I suspect that they would cut just as well if they were still sheathed... |
