Well i have a real simple intrest in others UI and how the game looks for them. For me its one big mess with pop-ups, bars, info and whatnot (think i have 3 diffrent programs + CTRA msg informing me of diffrent mobs Spells abilitys and stuff))

A trained eye, I like to keep an eye on how it goes everywhere, how the healers are on mana, how the Ranged dps is in agro, how my fellow tankers do and also whats up with the things we fight! ^_^

That was clean indeed! Hmm.. what addons you use? I've tweaked my ui with Discord Unit Frames. Gonna tweak it a bit more soon... so it will be even more cleaner :)

That's DAB ( for playing with my bars ), DART ( for adding the rune around the minimap ), DFM ( for cleaning out all the stuff I hate, especially the minimap crap =P ) and DUF ( for the unitbars of love =P )*grins*
I'm a sucker for his addons, and they're extremely good.

Most of the ui is event-based. When something happens, the proper bars pop up. So in times of peace, my UI is a bliss, and in fights I get the bars popping up ;) When I need skills that isn't needed in combat, I use ctrl + mouseover. Easy stuff really ^^.... however, during raids there's a million buffs and CT_raid =)

It should automatically load the texture when retrieving my settings. The settings I use in there should be sufficient to give you an idea on how to proceed. If I happened to screw up, give me a shout, and I'll see if I can make a custom-file I am 100% sure will work ;)

You need to use DFM to modify the minimap properly ^^

i mean, from the discordmods website.....

I have no idea what i might have done worng, i just extracted the mods into the addons folder, started wow, and it said half of them are outdated.

When you are at your character selection screen, there is a small button on the left down side of the screen, press on it, you will get a list of all the mods.
On that window look at the right side, there is a place that says load all outdated mods, you should check that and everything will work.

Morghus, just zip all the discord mods in the addon folder and the lua files in the wtf folder.....

Damn, it's difficult to get the ui set up right :P

It's not much, it just looks good every now and then =P
The version is 3.1f of DAB, and slightly ... odd... so the 'Button Control' settings and several other things were removed because they simply made things intolerable. Hope Loz will fix that =) I doubt I managed to clean out all the crap, but hope is the last thing to die, no? ^^

Healthbars also gives other info... About the debuffs and amount of mana people have, help you know when you can slack some to regain mana and when you should drink a potion or so...
They do take up quite some space :\

Aye, debuffs is the big one so you know when to stop spamming decursive, also for things like AE in smaller raids where you need to jump on a lock/mage's health bar before it starts to drop.

Also to switch between tanks quickly in big encounters and to heal other healers.  I guess the only people I could take off the boxes would be the hunters as they have a tendancy to not die suddenly and without warning.

I appear to have shrunk it, I'll fix it when it isn't 6am and I've had no sleep for 24 hours :)

Xdrain, most healers, like Dreadai, watches most or all the raid's health bars.

I don't, because I'm to slow to react to falling health then, if I should find the one whom amongs 40 dropping healthbars needs my healing the most. Not to talk about being able to click-hit their quite small box, especially under spellightspam or when my cheap mouse and -mat is acting up.

So I use plain EM and a keyboardbutton to the one on the top of the list. Spam it and LHW/CH as appropriate.

(BTW: Raid healing is best when all the healers don't do the same thing :)

So; to my four pictures below.

First one: a MC raid. Notice these UI addons:  the 4 x 15 FlexBar box, the Damage Meter, and four CT_RaidAssist boxes: Emergency Monitor, Resurrection Monitor, Raidstatus and MT Targets.

I've made some changes since then, the main one being totem timers now sits above my emergency monitor. MTTargets gets moved around quite a bit, it usually sits below Damage Meter, just above my combat log, or directly above the totem timer depending on how important tank switches are and how many tanks are on the list.

Going to rearrange my buttons soon, break up the right part of the bottom bar, and put more useful buttons in easier to access places. Will also have a play around with flex totems when I have the time and the inclination. What I'd really like is a slider for mana conserve, possibly as a titan panel plugin.

Your guess is as good as mine, I don't use the standard numeric key bindings. I've a few of the more common spells bound to keys and mouse clicks, but not many. Mostly I'm more comfortable just pointing and clicking than fumbling around for the right key.

I can recommend Nurfed HUD, for its purdiness.

It displays your target's health, you health, your mana and your castingbar, in red, green, blue and yellow, from left to right respectively.

It's very purdy, and the bars are dimmed when in full, safe state so it's not bothersome. :)


Yes, I know I need to clean up my UI.

I've started using nurfed hud, tbh it is a pain in the ass for raids but nice solo.  But then my UI is very cluttered on raids already and it is a lot of unnecessary space waste for me :)

Nurfed Hud and Combat log are still in beta, so i am waiting for the final versions which should be out soon with new types of bars and features.

Ok, so I dun need KTM. But the rest of those windows contain loads nice info :)

...my biggest problem, perhaps, is where to place 'Perfect Raid' meter - it's the vertically placed list of healthbars ( and classcoloured names, and info if person is poisoned/diseased/cursed/magic ) Mebbe I should skip it too.

Too much addons makes it hard to look C'Thun into the eye :-|

Its mostly discord(unit frames, action bars, frame modifier etc). Discord Unit Frames for that, can remove rank and all that.

I am using Discord Unit Frames(1) (DUF). It is a very configurable Unit Frame addon. There's loads of pre-made templates(2) for it so you can get a pretty UI quickly. There's also some bit more extensive UI packages which use DUF and other addons. Most notable are Photek UI 3.5(3), Reborn UI(4) and Highborn UI(5) . I am using heavily modified Dancingblade DUF template.

It's something of a work in progress at the moment, next thing I need to figure out how to do in DUF is to change the look of the target frame if the unit is hostile.

Yup, all drew it myself. :) Just need to come up with something to fill in the upper part of the screen for the party frames etc.

What is the box over the text box for ? Guild - Whisper ?

And just a question , where do you plan to position the 4 party member ?

Those light/flames thingies, is a HUD. The left side shows your HP, Rage/Energy/Mana. The right side shows that of your target. So, depending on how much HP/Rage/Energy/Mana you have, its size will increase or decrease in height.

The box above the normal chat i what i personaly use for the class channel and whispers. Of course you can throw what ever you want into it.

Party frames: I'm thinking about making another frame to fit them in just like I did for the unit frame part that is already there. To give it a "complete" look.

Well my suggestion would be to smooth maybe the "cut" of the HUD in a half circle (A light one), No offense it's surely cause It's my work IR ^^

Hmm, what is, writing code or textures? ;)

Textures isn't a really problem for me, but the cut, is a code issue. Don't think it is that easy to fix, if it acn even fixed at all. All HUDs i've seen, have a cut like this one.

Maybe rotate the health/mana/rage/energy bars so that no hard cuts have to made to the image? Might need a bit of trial and error to find suitable pivot points, but it would look nicer than just chopping parts off.

Also, does it all scale properly with all resolutions / aspect ratios? :p

Dear Xorthorr. I've got some very simple ideas to improve your UI:

1) Drop the trade channel ^_^

2) Add mucho more addons! There needs to be a ring of addon-icons circling around your minimap! ideas are: damagemeter*S*, EM, Perfectraid and/or CT RA groups, addon for weaponswitching, using potion / HSwhen low health, etc etc.

3) About your HUD / LUA: in addition to chop the image, is it possible to use more than one image too?  

4) And lastly: there's a ugly guy in the middle of your screen, with reddic-ously looking shoulders and shield. Remove it, or at least upgrade class, race and lewt! ^_^

About the race and class.. Don't be that jalous! We all know orcs and the class warrior is the best there is!

HUD: Hmm, I doubt it. SInce its a animated proces. So you'd have to redraw the thing for each % that you loose/gain. Of course you can do it in fewer steps but I think that'll result in the HUD not animating smoothly anymore. Not to mention, the memory it'll take to generate a new image again and again.

Commercial mods - meh.  I've no problem with a paypal link, or premium site membership for those really interested, but seems a bit much to pay for a mod.  Other question: how will they protect the lua code once they do release it?

tbh, this is a copy of beta 1.1. And it has no protection or so ever.  But if it is working still great in tBC, I dont mind paying for it and I surely will buy a copy of my own then.

I have no real problem with the money, it's the principle.  I'd donate €50 through an optional thing, but not pay €25 if it's compulsary.  I just thing it's a bad direction for player to support is all.  Imho, ymmv, etc. etc. :)

It is still a "Work in Progress" because before patch i was able to create a file .exe that automatically install both Interface and WTF folder deleting the old files.. now i'm able to install only the interface and not the WTF.. So pretty useless a .exe... Anyway.. these addons are causing some problem because i changed OS (now using Windows Vista Ultimate) and, like last night at magtheridon, it gives me some critical error (working to solve them).. 1 last problem is the Ram.. I had to allocate 1.5Gb of ram ONLY for World of Warcraft using a really long Vista process because now i can no more decide the ram used for Addons from WoW Character page....... But really don't know why...

Post some opinions on UI / how to solve problems please.. i need suggestions.. :P

Scale down your Unit frames Monique and you free up a lot of screen space, same with your elkbuffbar and MT windows.

You don't need to be able to see/click on all of that as a dps.  The only reason I keep raid frames up at all is for buffing =)

hehe.. i use MT targets because if i have to CoT an add of magtheridon.. i can target them easyly.. and the problem is not the screen.. about raid frame.. i like to see people of raid that recive heals and take damages ( i played a pala so i had to see it.. and now.. i feel unsure if i don't see them :P)

To change a font is really easy..
-Create a folder named "Fonts"
-Chose a font in the control pannel of windows and  copy it in the folder created
-Make 4 copies of the same file and rename them:
"ARIALN"
"FRIZQT_"
"MORPHEUS"
"skurri"
(remember to type EXACTLY how i did)
So you can chose every font you have in Microsoft Office and i like my very much.. not so hard to read

I had a similar amount of screenspace, when i first entered MC to heal, back in september '05 :D

i don't really want to make everything smaller though. I can use bartender etc to reduce the size of my buttons but i don't want them smaller..

I use "some" keybinds, but not that many. i don't really like them, i can see why they'd be needed for classes like rogues but with slow hitters like me it's not such a big deal.

I didn't know you could get wow on two screens. i have a 2nd screen doing nothing..

How do you manage to monitor both sides? I wouldn't, simply due to that it requires head movement, which with time loss of moving and initial disorientation, results in... Bad.

But it also solved some mysterious feeling of being ignored by some people... Assuming their chatlog is somewhere hiding in a neglected corner too with other spam innit.

You've got too much frilly graphics which limits your space for actual critical info - you'll need to be able to see and easilly read chat screens if raiding.   Likewise Bigwigs messages, Omen, etc etc.

Plus unless you have an amazing system you're filling your memory with pointless stuff that will reduce your frame rate, therefore your dps and surivability.  ;)

I hate having crap in the middle of my screen near my toon, makes it impossible to see things like void zones.

I dislike massive bars like most timers/buff monitors, takes up far too much screen estate for very little extra info.



Addons used in that:

FuBar - information panel with various dropdowns at top of screen.  (clock my DPS (red text in the middle), mwhahahahaa!)

Bartender - action bars - that's CooldownCount showing timers on buttons.

Autobar - dynamic action bar

Pitbull - unit frames

Appature - creates the viewport at the bottom

Buffalo - didn't actually do much with this, just move buffs/debuffs around some

Classtimer - just the icons and timer next to player/target frames.

Squeenix - Square minimap with range indicator

SCT - Scrolling combat text.  Only shows important crap I need to know - auras gained (bloodlust), Environmental (rain of fire)

PRAT - vastly configurable chat mod.

Forgotname- those green blobs, I just use that to track combo points on Malygos, forgot to turn it off.

Omen ofc.  
RBS - Raid Buff Status, tells me who lacks what

I am working on to replace classtimers/dottimers/whatnot with SBF frames. I also moved all short duration buffs to separate frame. Makes main buff display more readable and easier to time speed pots whatnot with trinket procs and such.

The frame on the right is my /focus frame, I usually have a tank there for me MD on Focus macro. Between the focus frame and the Recount, I have a chat window for the Hunter channel and the DPS channel, which isn't visible in the screenshot.

Yeah, but i've really got used to it. I decided to take this screenshot when i actually noticed i had loads of spam in the middle of the screen.

I can still see stuff like orbs and such so it's not that bad :p
